Who we are
Roman River Pre-School is an Ofsted registered and inspected, committee run pre-school based in the rural village of Fingringhoe, close to Colchester. Our Ofsted registration number is 402265.
We are based in the local village hall where we offer children an exceptional outdoor woodlands area as well as indoor activities and a ‘classroom’ for those children starting primary school in the next academic year.

As a registered charity, we are governed by the regulation and requirements of the Charity Commission (registered charity number 1031056), and we are also members of the Early Years Alliance (EYA).

The pre-school comprises of two rooms as well as a large outdoor woodlands area.
In the main room, daily changing activities and areas are offered, including play dough, home corner, reading corner, fancy dress, messy/water play, crafts and many more.
Additionally, we have a ‘classroom’ which aims to prepare our older children for their primary school start by introducing them to more focused activities and developing necessary skills, like changing into their PE kit.
Our outdoors area features equipment like slides, climbing frames, planters, benches, sand pit and more, and the children have access to balance bikes, trikes and further outdoor toys.
Roman River Pre-School is a committee run pre-school which enables parents to become involved in shaping the pre-school’s future. The committee exists of parents present and past along with our manager and makes decision relating to all aspects of pre-school life.
Additionally, the committee also organises fundraising events, like out popular Halloween disco, summer and Christmas fetes and more. All the money raised is invested in equipment for the pre-school and has over the last few years enabled us to develop our amazing woodlands area with the addition of wooden play equipment, chalkboards, planters, reading corner, etc.
In order to continue to grow the pre-school and see it move from strength to strength, the committee are always looking for more members to bring fresh ideas to the table and share the work (the more members, the less work for each!) so if you would like to join the pre-school committee, please speak to our manager Jo.
Our pre-school has a great team of experienced early years educators. Please click on each name to learn more about the team.
