Last week, we had a lovely time in the garden – the children have been planting sunflower seeds to grow and talking about food choices and healthy eating. We have talked about how we keep our bodies and teeth healthy.
Everyone had lots of fun joining in Coronation activities last week which culminated in our very own Coronation Afternoon Tea – a big Thank You to all our parents for your support!
We have been having lots of fun with our Easter activities – the children have been experimenting with coloured ice eggs, making chocolate nests, discovering hidden chicks and eggs as well as themed threading activities. Throughout the activities which the children enjoyed, they have been further developing their concentration, fine motor, maths, problem solving, literacy and understanding of the world skills – all while having lots of fun!
Last week in pre school, we enjoyed various activities to celebrate Mother’s Day, including a fizzing tea party and daffodil and tulip painting. Thursday and Friday, we celebrated St Patrick’s Day. We also had some palaeontologists in our midst who keenly explored dinosaur skeletons and bones.
The children have been looking fab, dressing up all week in their favourite characters. We have had some book themed activities that the children have enjoyed, including Elmer the elephant, Mad Hatter’s tea party, the Gruffalo and Stickman. We have enjoyed story time and using props to help us tell stories.
Last week, the children have loved construction so we used different provocations to encourage construction play and enhance their development, language and social skills. We have had large boxes and blocks as well as different building materials. We also celebrated Pancake Day where the children had a go at making pancakes and at Forest School, we cooked pancakes over the fire.
This week, we have been feeling the love in preschool – themed activities included fizzing Valentines tea party, rose scented play dough and water play as well as love themed shapes, sorting and counting opportunities. We have also continued with our ‘love of reading’ theme with various books and activities, including ‘The tiger that came to tea’ and ‘Whatever Next’.
We have been having so much fun exploring different stories the children enjoy – both fiction and non-fiction books. There is so much learning in all the different activities about our books , including communication and language, maths, fine motor skills and sensory exploration as well as understanding the world around us. In Forest School, the children roasted pineapple over the fire for snack, had cauldrons for potion making and made birds out of pine cones. We have also had a little move around of the main room to continue to progress children’s learning and free flow activities.
This week, the children had lots of fun exploring books – we have been mixing with the Gruffalo, chopping with the Hungry Caterpillar, counting with Elmer and rescuing Dinosaurs from the Ice Age! These provocations support the children’s communication and language, encourage a love of reading as well as developing physical skills.
