This week, we have had a lovely time in our gingerbread bakery. The children have been using ginger playdough to make some lovely gingerbread and cakes. We have made a Christmas star in Forest School as well as toasting our marshmallows over the fire for S’mores for our last session of the term. We have also been making Christmas crafts.
All children are invited to join us for a party lunch at midday after which they will have a play frame, soft play and ball pit set up in the hall to celebrate their last day of term. Rumour has it that Santa might be putting in an appearance too!
Join us for our Christmas Concert & Fete on Wednesday December 14th at 1pm. The children are looking forward to showcasing their Christmas songs and we will have stalls available along with our grand raffle being drawn. Tickets are now available from pre school at a cost of £3 which includes a mince pie and hot drink.
With the weather turning colder, we have been having lots of fun creating some wintery activities. We have been making snowflakes, whilst practising our fine motor skills, making and dissolving bicarb snowflakes and we have even had a penguins’ paradise with sugar cube igloos set up.
The children had a lovely week exploring different senses last week. They have been mark making in various media, building and exploring patterns, enjoying activities based on the Gruffalo story and enjoying the very wet weather. In Forest School, they made some clay hedgehogs with pine cones, cooked some hot dogs over the fire and splashed in some huge muddy puddles.
We’ve had a very autumnal week here at Roman River Preschool – we have been making spooky potions, enjoyed pumpkin play, pumpkin spice playdough, a spooky train ride and hunted insects in jelly. The children have been using their bodies to explore textures, working on fine motor skills, maths and communication.
Last week, the children worked on their maths skills – filling and emptying containers using various tools, such as pipettes, measuring cups and spoons; using scales to measure quantities, etc. We also enjoyed role play, including having an opticians and shops set up as well as a range of books with activities on offer based around the books
Last week, we had lots of sensory fun. We created a ‘feely’ board for the children to experience different textures. Then we made Gruffalo crumble, using peelers to peel the apples and talking about the different ingredients before using our fingers to make the crumble topping. In Forest school, we enjoyed learning about ‘Isaac the Hedgehog’ in his story book, built a story den and made hedgehog pictures
We have been having a fantastic time in preschool! The children have worked on their fine motor skills, maths, literacy, communication and imagination – all whilst following their own likes and interests.
