Last week in pre school, we have been learning about Remembrance Day with themed activities. The children have enjoyed making poppies, playing with coloured rice and having water play. We have also been updating our sensory den with a new bubble tube that is proving popular with the children.
This week, we are celebrating fireworks and Diwali. We have lots of lovely messy and colourful activities for the children and have been making some clay candle holders while talking about safety around fire.
This week in Preschool ,we are having a spooky time! The children are really enjoying all the fun Halloween activities and learning and practicing a variety of skills including fine motor skills, counting and mark making.
Last week was National Child Safety Week and the children had lots of play activities relating to people who help us and keeping themselves save – a little snippet of what they enjoyed!
Another wet and windy week has gone but our children were less than discouraged by the weather! Quite the opposite – they have had a lot of fun activities on offer and enjoyed them throughout the week. Here are some pictures of what was planned out.
Last week’s topic was Teddy Bears. We held teddy bears’ picnics on a few occasion and will carry on with this topic for the rest of the month. We will be learning about different types bears using best known books including “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. Also, please see some of our lovely activities linked to the topic and more from this week.
Last week, we concluded the topic of Dinosaurs. The children have had a chance to use their knowledge and interests in dinosaurs in all of the learning areas. Alongside dinosaurs we have also been growing runner beans and sunflowers which we will carry on next week. We would like to thank Lacey’s mummy for arranging our tadpole delivery. Some of the children went to the local pond to get some water to make a lovely natural environment for out tadpoles. The children are very interested in them and checking on them every day hoping to see the frogs.
We have carried on with the dinosaur interest, and this week, we have been using brushes to uncover dino fossils, measured the size of dinosaurs and used vinegar in pipettes to make fizzy science dinosaurs. In our messy play, we experimented with ice dinosaur bones, and the children enjoyed dino jungle play in the large tray as well as making big dino eggs out of balloons and paper mache.
We have started this term with the topic on dinosaurs as this is where our children’s preferences are taking us. Here are few photos of what the children have been up to this week: dinosaur stomping – mixing colours, looking at the patters, recognising differences in sizes and in types of dinosaurs; dinosaur small world – experimenting with senses, imagination, narrating play; dinosaurs in ice – using hand and eye coordination and handling one handed tools; using our gross motor skills and getting our arms movements ready for all that writing in September! dinosaurs in lava! – exploring with senses, imagination, narrating play; understanding of the world in context, experimenting with new words; dinosaurs in swamp – exploring senses in water, natural objects and narrating play, building our vocabulary; And bringing nature and season into everyday play by experimenting with blossom!
