This Week – Dinosaurs contd.

We have carried on with the dinosaur interest, and this week, we have been using brushes to uncover dino fossils, measured the size of dinosaurs and used vinegar in pipettes to make fizzy science dinosaurs. In our messy play, we experimented with ice dinosaur bones, and the children enjoyed dino jungle play in the large tray as well as making big dino eggs out of balloons and paper mache.

Last Week – Dinosaurs

We have started this term with the topic on dinosaurs as this is where our children’s preferences are taking us.
Here are few photos of what the children have been up to this week:
dinosaur stomping – mixing colours, looking at the patters, recognising differences in sizes and in types of dinosaurs;
dinosaur small world – experimenting with senses, imagination, narrating play;
dinosaurs in ice – using hand and eye coordination and handling one handed tools; using our gross motor skills and getting our arms movements ready for all that writing in September!
dinosaurs in lava! – exploring with senses, imagination, narrating play; understanding of the world in context, experimenting with new words;
dinosaurs in swamp – exploring senses in water, natural objects and narrating play, building our vocabulary;
And bringing nature and season into everyday play by experimenting with blossom!

This Week – Superworm

This week, we focused on worms alongside the story of Superworm by Julia Donaldson.
It was an exciting week full of lovely focused activities set up by our team and great spontaneous ideas from the children themselves.

Some of this week’s activities included:
Learning about positional language with superworm
Making potions out of lemons and herbs
Peeling brussels sprouts and sugar snaps and popping out peas
Organising dinosaurs into size groups
Bug hunting in the garden

Most of our children have now returned and it was so lovely to watch them rekindle their friendships.

This Week – Rainbow Fish & Mental Wellbeing

It was a very lovely and productive week. We have had a lot of fun and learning opportunities on offer this week. We are now finishing a month of promoting mental health and wellbeing in young children during which we focused on feelings, self-esteem and self-confidence and being kind to each other. Here, you will be able to see photos of few activities and areas we have now introduced within the room such as Loose Parts Play, Curiosity Box and a place where we can revisit our emotions. These are ever growing and evolving but you can see what we aim to offer to the children in long term.

Last Week – Owl Babies

Last week, we had lovely owl babies made of pinecones which one of our parents have brought in a couple of weeks ago. The children also made little nests out of paper plates and shredded paper. The children have enjoyed variety of art and craft within the topic as well as maths and literacy activities. We have now mastered cutting skills with all of the cutting activities available each week and are getting to grips with quantities, sizes and measuring!

Last week, we had lovely owl babies made of pinecones which one of our parents have brought in a couple of weeks ago. The children also made little nests out of paper plates and shredded paper. The children have enjoyed variety of art and craft within the topic as well as maths and literacy activities. This Week – What the Ladybird heard

The children have enjoyed having masks and practised cutting skills. We have made story boards where children could use their imagination and make up their own versions of it and place their characters where they wanted. The children have also made their own maps of the farm and you can see couple of lovely examples here.
The children also used story puppets to further their literacy skills and played with messy tuff trays set up as the farm as well as bugs and insects tray further during the week.
We explored mathematics with ladybird bingo and lotto games where the children had to organise and identify numbers.
We have ended the week with art and craft such as recycling modelling, salt dough ladybirds and potato printing all in the theme of the story we have read this week.
It certainly was a busy week!

Last Week – The Tiger Who Came to Tea

The children made a tea party with real tea bags and made playdough cup cakes.
We used sugar snap peas to promote fine motor skills where we tried to peel, snap and open them up.
We also made potions in the water tray with oranges and lemons.
And children as always wanted to play with sea creatures.
We also enjoyed large scale drawing and printing.

Winter & Christmas is coming!

Some of the activities the children enjoyed last week – Christmas is slowly making its way to Roman River Pre-school!
The children have dressed up our Christmas tree. They have been making Christmas cards and presents and posting them in our specially arranged Christmas Post Office with a perfect window view!
